Your role at BRE

We are currently seeking a dynamic and organised individual to join our Built Environment team as a Project Engineer.

  • Customer liaison from tender to final reporting stage.
  • Establishing client’s needs; interpreting these along with design specifications/codes and standards to create proposals for testing and research work.
  • Management of small to medium-sized laboratory projects including, as necessary, supervision of sub-contractors and clients.
  • Assistance and supervision of the construction of test rigs; and the placement of measurement instrumentation.
  • Overseeing the recording and analysis of test data, observations and measurements.
  • Working to testing standards and UKAS accredited test procedures.
  • Preparation of technical reports, or checking then counter signing those produced by other staff members
  • Undertaking of desk-based studies and research as required.
  • Working within the Built Environment Team, and the wider BRE Group to develop and expand testing and consultancy work.
  • Working to defined budgets and timescale deadlines.

Your profile

Some skills that will be necessary for this position include;

Essential:

  • Experience as a project engineer with a structural or mechanical engineering background.
  • Practical experience and/or demonstrable practical aptitude and interest in application of scientific and engineering principles to solving real-world problems.
  • Project management experience.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Good command of English as a working language (written and verbal communication).
  • Team player always, demonstrating a professional and courteous attitude.
  • Good multi-tasking ability and time management skills.
  • Proven record of delivering results on time and budget.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office software.
  • Experience working with both technical and non-technical clients and colleagues.

Desirable:

  • Practical experience of testing/experimentation within a laboratory setting or on-site.
  • Degree level qualification in engineering or science discipline
  • Experience in the design of products, systems or structures.
  • Experience of designing for and evaluating the effects of structural dynamics.
  • Familiarity with modelling environments or data processing software.
  • Prior involvement with collaborative, cross discipline teams.
  • Experience of computer programming using a high-level language for numerical analysis, data acquisition or control.
