Here is an overview of each of our lab-based business areas:

 

Security:

The Security Team is a renowned and respected provider of security testing, research and standards that help to protect people and property from crime and terrorism. It is also responsible for issuing security product certification under our internationally recognised LPCB brand, ensuring end users and other stakeholders can rely on those products to deliver the required protection against crime and terrorism.

 

Environmental Testing:

The Environmental testing team help building developers, owners and occupants ensure that their buildings and communities not only meet regulatory requirements but are also places which people want to live, work and spend time in. The team undertakes a comprehensive range of testing, covering everything from air quality, ventilation, lighting, thermal comfort and acoustics services both at the BRE site and on client premises. A very existing sector to be working in, with BRE being a global leader in providing these scopes of services. 

 

Fire Detection (FDET):

The Fire Detection team within BRE is a leading provider for the testing and approvals of fire detection products under the internationally recognised LPCB brand, ensuring that end users can trust the performance of the products they purchase.  Our testing covers control panels, a wide range of detectors and associated components, and alarm transmission systems. BRE has extensive world class facilities for the testing of fire detection products to European and international standards.

 

Cables:

The Cables team undertakes a comprehensive range of tests for a wide spectrum of product types including power cables, integrity cables and data and communication cables. The product performance testing scope is varied and includes fire, toxicity, mechanical and EMC. A full range of testing is undertaken covering UK, European and International standards for sectors such as rail, aviation and marine.

 

Fire Suppression:

Equipped with one of the most advanced laboratories in the world, the Suppression team have been assessing and approving fire suppression products, systems and services for more than 100 years. These include Automatic sprinkler, water spray and deluge systems, fixed fire fighting systems, portable fire extinguishing equipment and hose reels. The scope of work undertaken by the technicians is varied with great opportunities to develop and learn new skills.

 

Passive Fire:

The Passive Fire department cover a wide range of testing and product types, including Fire Resistance, Cladding and Reaction to fire testing onsite in our state-of-the-art laboratories. Testing varies significantly with tremendous opportunities to work across a number of technical fields. Specific test specialisms include heat release, spread of flame, fire resistance and toxicity testing.

 

Construction:

The Construction team works on a large variety of building materials and systems testing. We have projects that involve testing from microscopic samples, up to full scale mock-ups of built structures and everything in-between, such as stone and slate testing plus wind/ structural load testing. There are very good development opportunities for technicians working within this team.
