Your role at BRE

We are currently seeking a dynamic and organised individual to join our team as a Lab Manager. Some of the essential duties in this role will include:

  • Delivery of new and updated test methods within agreed timeframes as required by the market and our customer base. 
  • H&S managed in relation to the laboratory test facilities, regularly liaising with the bre health and safety group as appropriate.
  • Ensure that risk and method statements are regularly reviewed for all testing activities.  
  • Providing ongoing training to lab staff with the responsibility of training and competency records to ensure skills and knowledge are kept up to date. 
  • Delivery of customer testing projects on time within agreed budgets. 
  • Delivery of financial targets being met, within agreed costs and maintaining required profitability. 
  • Calibration and maintenance programs are managed effectively and equipment is fully operational. 
  • Positive scoring within bre sei scorecards against wider company results. 
  • Demonstrable ability to act within the bre purpose and values. 
  • Representation of the business at various trade shows, exhibitions, seminars, standards and directive committee meetings. 
  • Maintaining UKAS accreditation for all testing services. 
  • Participation in policy reviews, efficiency improvements and driving the implementation of change.

Your profile

Some skills that will be necessary for this position include:

  • Experience and understanding of cable testing.
  • Experience working within a testing laboratory (ISO17025 accredited or similar) 
  • Experience managing teams/ projects focused on customer delivery.  
  • Strong ability to understand/ interpret technical requirements specified in product standards.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively lead a team, delegate tasks, motivate team members and identify any potential issues and propose swift resolutions. 
  • Experienced in managing external supplier relationships ensuring agreed SLAs are adhered to. 
  • Verifying test programs, technical evaluation files and quotations ensuring technical rigor for all projects. 
  • Analytical ability, clarity of thought and attention to detail.
  • Good organisational and communication skills. 
  • The ability to build and maintain good customer relationships. 
  • Be fully conversant with Microsoft Word, excel, outlook and databases. 
  • Experience working in a UKAS-accredited certification environment.  
  • Keen eye for detail, ensuring testing, test plans and other critical information are not overlooked.
